## Abstract

AIM: To assess the difference in patient satisfaction and bone height changes between mini-implant supported overdentures and conventional implants placed after bone expansion. METHODS: In this randomized clinical trial, 36 edentulous participants with thin mandibular ridges were randomly divided to receive 2 mini-implants, or 2 conventional implants after ridge splitting, both in the inter-foraminal area of the anterior mandible. Patients then received mandibular overdentures with ball and socket attachments. At baseline, and after 6 and 12 months of loading, patient satisfaction was evaluated with a visual analogue scale and bone height changes were measured with Soredex DIGORA Optime Classic software. RESULTS: Overall satisfaction differed significantly between the mini-implant and conventional implant groups; bone height changes in the mini-implant group were significantly smaller than in the conventional implant group at baseline, 6 and 12 months. CONCLUSION: Treatment with two mini-implants provides a high level of satisfaction and less bone height change over 12 months of follow-up compared with conventional implants after ridge expansion. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03326453.
